Ferrous scrap — steel and iron — is the backbone of the scrap business in Southeast Texas. It is the material we buy in the largest volume at Port Arthur Recycling, from a pickup bed of light iron to full truckloads off industrial jobs, and it crosses our truck scales priced by the hundredweight.
If a magnet sticks to it, it is ferrous: structural steel, pipe, sheet iron, appliances, rebar, cast iron, and complete vehicles. No load is too small, and commercial volumes can be scheduled ahead so trucks move straight across the scale.

What We Accept
- Mixed steel — general steel scrap of mixed thickness and size
- Long iron / short iron (HMS) — heavier structural and plate steel; length matters for grading
- Light iron — sheet metal, tin, ductwork, and appliances
- Cast iron — stoves, pipes, counterweights, and machine bases
- Complete vehicles — bring the title; we handle the rest at the scale
How Pricing Works
Ferrous is quoted per CWT — per hundredweight, which is 100 pounds. A price of $10 per CWT works out to 10 cents per pound, so a 3,000 lb load of mixed steel at $10/CWT pays $300. Our calculator does this math for you with live prices.
Loads weigh in and out on our truck scales, and you are paid on the net weight. Steel markets move with the mills, and the board follows — the prices here are what the Port Arthur yard is paying today.
